The Best Family Friendly Campsites in the Vendee

21310682395_familyent.jpgThe Vendee is a great location for a family holiday. As well as the beaches, its easy access from the U.K., endless hours of sunshine and excellent watersports there are also plenty of campsites and mobile homes to choose from, which makes this location ideal for a family break. The trouble is that with so many campsites available, it’s hard to know which one to choose. I intend to make it a little bit clearer by giving my top five family-friendly campsites in The Vendee.

Camping le Clarys Plage

If your family’s idea of a great holiday is to enjoy the beach, and to spend time swimming in a fun and feature packed pool complex, then Camping le Clarys Plage may be just the campsite for you. The golden sands of the local beach are just 5 minutes walk away, while the pool provides excellent facilities for children and parents alike. There are plenty of slides, a jacuzzi, fountains and a separate covered pool and paddling pool for the children and toddlers. There is also evening entertainment throughout the season, and while there’s no restaurant or shop on site, a fine selection of bars and eateries are just a short walk away.

Camping les Biches

This is one of my favourite campsites in the Vendee, and is ideal for active families. As well as being close to the golden sands of the coast, Camping les Biches has a varied range of sporting activities and play areas for children of all ages. There’s a fantastic indoor and outdoor pool complex, a playground ideal for toddlers and a family friendly mini-golf course. On top of this, there are many other sports facilities including tennis, table tennis and volleyball. Finally, the site entertainment varies from live bands, to discos and karaoke. All of which will ensure your family have a fantastic holiday whilst enjoying the comfort and luxuries of a mobile home in the Vendee.

Camping La Garangeoire

You may think that travelling to a campsite based in the countryside will limit the family friendly fun you can have whilst camping in the Vendee, but Camping La Garangeoire looks to dispel this myth. It’s been awarded ‘three Red Tents’ by Michelin and it boasts some of the best activities onsite for children including a playroom, mini golf, pony rides, archery and pedaloes. On top of this, there’s also the excellent swimming pool which has plenty of water slides. Adults can relax at the peaceful lake onsite whilst enjoying a spot of fishing.

Camping Les Ecureuils

Nestled in the heart of the forests of the Vendee, Camping les Ecureuils boasts not only a Michelin three red tent rating but also a safe haven for families with small children. The campsite has a safe and friendly environment with plenty of space for energetic children to play. Families can enjoy the L-shaped pool (with separate children’s pool), as well as the lively entertainment program which includes magic shows and live music.

Camping La Yole

If you want to combine the golden sands of the coast as well as the forests of other campsites in the Vendee, then Camping la Yole is for you. Set in the heart of nature, this is a perfect location for those who want to relax whilst the children are off enjoying the pool complex which includes a large outdoor pool, children’s pool, heated indoor pool, Jacuzzi and waterslides. There’s also plenty of family friendly entertainment in high season too, with magic shows and discos guaranteed to keep the whole family amused during their stay on this fantastic campsite in the Vendee.

Holidaying in a tent or mobile home in the Vendee is a great choice for those with families. The resort style facilities and entertainment both onsite and nearby will keep children of all ages happy during your stay. All of these campsites will offer you a great break for you and your family no matter which one you choose.

Pet Owners & Apartment Rentals: How to Find Apartments for Rent

01310682715_momsphonepics012.jpgAre you looking for a new apartment to rent?  Many renters look for family friendly establishments, but you may also be looking for a pet friendly rental.  Due to the costly fear of pet damage, many landlords do not allow tenants to have pets onsite.  With a little bit of research and possibly convincing, it is possible to find apartment rentals that allow pets.
To get started, you first want to look for apartment rentals.  You can find these listings a number of ways.  Start with an online search on classified and rental websites.  Then, check your local newspaper’s housing section.  Finally, keep your eyes and ears open, as some rentals are posted on community boards and others just have a for rent sign placed out front.
The easiest way to determine if pets are allowed is by reading the rental information in your local newspaper or an online listing.
If apartment rental listings do not state whether pets are allowed, it typically depends on how you are viewing this rental.  Landlords must pay fees to publish a rental listing in a newspaper; therefore, they tend to limit their costs with just the basic information.  Listings posted on free classified websites are free regardless.  In this case, someone who doesn’t state whether or not pets are allowed either does not care or didn’t take pet owning into consideration.  You have nothing to lose by calling to inquire.
It is recommended that pet owners looking for apartments to rent plan ahead.  As previously stated, not all landlords or property managers allow pets onsite.  That is why careful planning is advised.  If you intend to move in two months, start looking for an apartment now.  Typically, turnover is higher in larger apartment complexes where 20 plus people live, as opposed to a two family home with rental units.  As soon as you know you want to move, start getting yourself on the waiting lists of apartment complexes that allow pets.
It is also important to note that just because a landlord says no pets allowed, it doesn’t necessarily mean no pets allowed.  This is particularly true when dealing with an individual landlord, as opposed to a larger corporation.  If looking to rent an apartment in a multi-family home and if the landlord is local, consider calling for more information anyways.  Let them know you do have a pet, such as a small dog.  Offer to allow them to meet your pet or even offer to pay an additional pet security deposit.
There are no guarantees that offering an additional pet security deposit or letting the landlord meet your pet will result in an “okay, pets are allowed.”  However, it will not hurt to ask.  Many property owners have either had bad luck with a pet owner before or they knew someone who did.  This no pet rule is typically just a safeguard to protect their rental business.  If you provide reassurance and offer to be financially responsible for any damage that your animal does cause, a growing number of landlords will make an exception.

Swimming Pool Maintenance 101 – To Cover or Not to Cover

f_21311105689_tupling-0189.jpgBefore I owned a pool I always thought that pool maintenance was going to be a real pain and troublesome. I had heard many horror stories from friends and acquaintances about all the problems they had in keeping their pools clean and balanced

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that after our inground pool was installed, that maintenance of it really wasn’t a problem. How did I achieve this? I don’t know — but this is what I do.

First we never invested in a pool cover. Since we live in SC we have a few months of ‘cold’ temperatures but the remainder of the winter isn’t too bad. We don’t swim much from October to March but we don’t cover it either. We simply leave the pump and filter running. If the temperature drops below about 40 deg F, the pump automatically comes on to keep things from freezing. So, the first thing we don’t have to do is to cover the pool.

By not covering the pool, you save hundreds of dollars by not having to buy a pool cover every couple of years. But, in the long run, you might potentially pay more for electricity to run the pump all year than a new cover would have cost.

By not covering the pool you also save the hassle of ‘opening the pool’ every spring. First, you don’t have to mess with the debris of leaves and the murky water that accumulates on the top of the cover. (On the flip side, if you do cover the pool, do yourself a favor and skim the debris off the cover every so often.)

To combat the problem of debris (in an uncovered pool), we have a Polaris automatic pool cleaner which runs at least 2 to 3 hours a day. This keeps the pool clean of leaves, worms, bugs, and other similar yuck.

By not covering the pool but running the pump all winter long, you don’t have to contend with the stagnant green algae infested water that develops when it sits idle for months at a time. Thankfully this is not a problem when you run the pump throughout the winter.

By not covering the pool, you can take a quick dip anytime you please since the water is always pretty darn clean. While few people would ever take a quick dip in the winter, the point here is that the cleanliness and clarity of the pool stays so good that you could swim
in it, but more importantly, getting it balanced is as simple as taking a sample to be tested and learning what chemicals to add. In other words you can be swimming in a day without any serious effort or exhaustion.

The only other things that I do are 1.) Keep the chlorine reservoir full (or nearly full) with chlorine sticks and 2.) Clean the Polaris and filter trap every week. 3.) Watch the water level. If it gets too high, the skimmer does not work properly

Please keep in mind that we live in South Carolina. This type of pool care may not be appropriate for much colder climates. If you live in the north and have an inground pool, please contact your local pool company and they will be able to recommend something appropriate for your colder climate.

How Owning A Pet Teaches Your Children Responsibility And Builds Confidence

21310682713_a696.jpgSome people say that every boy should own a dog. It certainly agrees with the classic American family: Dad, Mom, Son, Daughter, and their dog. Though not all families are able to own a pet, children benefit in many ways because of this canine familial addition.

To begin, owning a dog benefits the physical health of children. How? Scientific studies have shown that when a person pats a dog or strokes a cat, their blood pressure lowers. This helps relax the child and relieves stress after a long day at school. Some studies have also shown that children who own a pet, particularly a dog, have more highly developed immune systems than children who do not own a pet. This is most likely because children are not afraid to hug their dog and smother their face in the not-always-clean coat of their dog; by doing this, children are able to slowly build and strengthen their disease and sickness fighting abilities.

Next, children whose families own pets have been shown to display higher levels of empathy and kindness in comparison to children who do not have a pet. Children with pets also display higher confidence levels; this may be because dogs are confident, non-judgmental creatures, and children unconsciously copy their dog’s finest traits. Also, studies have shown that children who own pets possess an affinity for understanding and communicating non-verbally. This is most likely because children talk to their dogs, and Rover in turn communicates through his body language, which kids learn to understand.

Here is a positive benefit to owning a pet that may interest parents: owning a cat or dog teaches children responsibility. When owning a dog, a child realizes that dogs have needs that must be met. Mom and Dad can help by teaching the children to put dog food in Rover’s bowl, let the him out into the fenced backyard to do his business, and taking him on walks for exercise. Kids realize that responsibly includes taking care of others, not simply brushing their teeth at night, doing their homework, and cleaning their room. Eventually, children will have families of their own to take care of; start them early by helping them take care of the family dog. Also, children are able to understand that if they do not take proper care of their pet, they will lose their best friend. The responsibility of caring for a pet fosters lifelong benefits for growing children.

Finally, many parents believe that owning a pet simply increases the quality of life for their children. Children who have pets often grow up with them because the dog acts as a member of the family. A pet provides an at-home friend, someone to greet them when they get home from school, someone to play catch with, watch TV with, and someone who is there for them when they are sad or hurt. Dogs certainly are a comfort and a joy for children. The benefits of owning pets for a child’s sake are endless. Who doesn’t want their child to experience the best life has to offer?

Camping – Great Choice For Family Vacation

Going camping with the family has become more and more popular recently. It is cheap and an effective way to have fun in the economic crisis. Because of the finance, some families cut off their recreational habits, but others still think entertainment is important and try to have fun without spending too much money. This is the reason of the increasing popularity in camping. If some of them are unsure of what camping supplies should they purchase, direct them to a Coleman camping equipment store. They can easily choose items without worrying about its quality. It is also important to remind them that they should bring the appropriate outdoor camping tents that would fit their whole family in it comfortably.
To avoid going over the top in buying enough food for the whole duration of the camping trip, you need to make menu plans and delegate assignments. This way nobody will be left out and nobody will get confused on where and how to get their meals. After doing that, make plans on the different activities that could spice up the family reunion even better. Go hiking, fishing, kayaking, biking or just plain camp games that everyone can enjoy. Find and assign the activities to those who are skilled in those areas so they can give pointers to the rest of the family.
After pitching on the outdoor camping tents gather everyone and start discussing about how to deal with animals and plants around them.
Make sure you tackle the guidelines and strategies on how to deal with animals in the campground. Remind them not to give any food to the animals, no matter how cute and adorable they may be. These animals would continue to visit them and later on be brave enough to poke around your things hunting for food. Give them one of the golden rules in camping and that is to never venture alone when they decided to explore especially when they feel like swimming if there is a nearby lake or river.

A Childs Rocking Horse Will Keep Them Occupied And Amused

f_01310682563_p1030635.jpgA child’s rocking horse is a toy for your child in the shape of a horse mounted on rockers. The rockers are essentially springs, which enable a child to rock and ride. The rocking movement entices many a child. It is also popular as a hobbyhorse. These riding toys give your child the illusion of riding a real horse and therefore are a favorite with most children.

Although only a small horse, a child’s rocking horse is strong enough for your child to sit and ride. It is in the shape of a typical horse with a head, legs, back, and tail. However, the hooves are along the bottom with curved bow type joints. These joints are similar to those commonly found in a rocking chair. These provide a forward and backward movement and allow your child to rock on the horse.

The child’s rocking horse also has proper footrests or straps which serve as stirrups. Your child can place its feet firmly into these stirrups. There are normally two handles at the sides of the horse, coming from the head portion. Your child can hold on to these handles for a firm grip while rocking on the toy.

The earliest known child’s rocking horse dates back to the middle Ages. Although initially such horses were for knights to practice jostling, later, Germany made such wooden horses as children’s toys in late 17th century or early 18th century. Nevertheless, only the rich could afford such toys for their children.

However, the scene changed later and the child’s rocking horse was present in almost every house all over the world. It is now so common that these toys are often in the attic even after the children outgrow such toys. The newer ones are also available in plastic rather than wooden. Despite the popularity of other toys like Barbie dolls, computer games, and robots, children find the simple rocking horse as enticing as ever.

Some of the child’s rocking horse also has real horsehair manes. Most of them are padded sufficiently to make them comfortable for your child to sit and rock. Some have reins and cloth saddles too. Colors of today’s rocking horses are now far from being the traditional grey or brown. You can choose from an array of bright and vibrant colors. Other accessories are also available in leather, fabric, and similar others.

Innovative models of the child’s rocking horse include the rocking horse toilet. This toy serves the dual-purpose of being a child’s toy and helps you teach basic toilet etiquette to your child. Prices for such toys range from $200 to $3,500 depending on your choice of the toy. However, always keep a watchful eye on children younger than four years while riding this horse.

Planning a Family Reunion

11310568073_meghan2.jpgIf family gatherings are few and far between for you, you might be considering planning a family reunion. Family reunions can be great ways to get extended family together when they otherwise would not likely be in the same place. Scheduling a family reunion has many benefits, however it may take some serious preparations before the big event can take place.
Before deciding to plan family reunion, make sure that others family members are interested. Make a few calls to get a feel if there is enough interest to go any further with reunion preparations. Make it a point to call guests that live the furthest away, since traveling to a family reunion will be more difficult for them and will require more planning on their behalf. If others seem interested, then let the planning begin!
Picking a location for your reunion can be tricky. You can either pick a central location where family members can travel and then meet one another “in the middle.” Or, you might want to consider choosing a location nearest the highest concentration of family which will save many from having to travel far.
